Locations are preparing for a return to Castrol as the BMW motor oil provider after making a move to Shell lubricant products in 2015. Before the 2015 change, Castrol held the position for close to 40 years.
While we don't know all the details about the move, some dealers getting ready for the implementation are having new stock scheduled to arrive February 2021.
Since late 2020 we have been preparing for the changeover. Orders placed directly from us after February 15, 2021 will be fulfilled utilizing the new Castrol product, across all available weights and oil types.
Our direct customers may opt to put in a special request with their order for a desired manufacture preference and we will notify on availability before shipping.
For those that may prefer the the Shell GTL line, we currently have a small quantity of the factory 5w30 LL01 available.
Orders from our other (expedited delivery) sales channels will be fulfilled utilizing Shell's product until quantities run out - we will post an update when it appears the changeover is imminent. We currently expect that to occur approximately the second week of February.
At the moment there is limited information available on the Castrol formulation and the typical physical qualities of the product.
