In 2022 the 50 year mark has aligned for the Nürburgring facility and BMW M
As a part of the 50th ADAC Total Energies 24h race this year at the Nürburgring, a pre-main event special run group will grid up. Those selected to compete also had a minimum age of 50.
The current driver lineup includes:
Dirk Adorf - Won the Nürburgring VLN German Endurance Trophy in 1992, 1996 and 1997
Bill Auberlen - Competes for Turner Motorsport BMW in the IMSA SportsCar Championship
Johnny Cecotto - won the German Super Tourenwagen Cup Championship for BMW
Eddie Cheever - USA racer in CART, Formula One and the Indy Racing League
Harald Grohs - 78, competed in 50 24 Hours endurance racing races, mainly 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours Nürburgring
Olaf Manthey - German former race car driver, current owner of Porsche team Manthey Racing
Jochen Mass - Participated in 114 Formula One World Championship Grand Prix events
Arturo Merzario - 79 and participated in 85 Formula One World Championship Grand Prix events
Steve Soper - Won the 24 Hours Nürburgring in 1987, the 24 Hours of Spa in 1995 and the Guia Race in 1997
HRH Prince Leopold of Bavaria - Became a factory driver for BMW in 1986 and retired from competitive racing in 1998. Remains as an adviser to the BMW racing team.
Franciscus van Meel - CEO for BMW M
Eric van de Poele - Three-time class winner at 24 Hours of Le Mans and also raced for the Modena-Lamborghini team
Each driver will have identically prepped versions of the BMW M2 CS Racing, using the S55 in the 365-hp configuration. Each car's livery will be slightly unique to help fans identify the drivers.
The event is well known in Europe and presented by joint efforts of the ADAC in Europe, the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club or as translated to english, the General Automobile Club - one of Europe's largest motoring organizations.
