Quick answers to the most common questions from BMW owners about genuine OEM parts, engine oil specifications, maintenance intervals, and ordering from SV Motori. If your question isn't here, contact the SV Motori team directly.
It depends on which M2 you have. The F87 M2 (2016–2018, N55 engine) requires BMW 5W-30 LL-01 or BMW 0W-30 LL-01 FE — both meet the LL-01 specification. The F87 M2 Competition (2019–2021, S55 engine) specifically requires BMW 0W-30 LL-01 FE — the 5W-30 LL-01 is not the correct specification for the S55. The G87 M2 (2023–present, S58 engine) requires BMW 0W-30 LL-01 FE or the newer LL-22 FE++ — check your owner's manual for confirmation.
BMW's Condition Based Service (CBS) system can allow up to 10,000 miles between oil changes depending on driving conditions. However, SV Motori's team and most BMW performance driving instructors recommend 5,000-mile intervals for spirited road driving and 3,100-mile intervals for track or motorsport use — particularly for M-series engines where oil shear and thermal cycling at track temperatures degrades the oil faster than BMW's CBS algorithms account for.
BMW recommends replacing brake fluid every 2 years regardless of mileage. For any BMW used on track — even occasionally — SV Motori recommends fresh fluid before each track season at minimum, and ideally before every track event. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point. On a track, degraded brake fluid can vapor lock under hard braking — causing a sudden and dangerous loss of pedal feel. BMW OEM Brake Fluid is one of SV Motori's most important track prep stocking items.
Genuine BMW OEM parts are engineered and tested specifically for BMW's systems — the materials, tolerances, and chemistry are developed to work with BMW's engines, cooling systems, and braking hardware. Aftermarket equivalents are manufactured to a broader compatibility standard that may not precisely match BMW's specifications. For consumables like engine oil, brake fluid, and coolant — where the wrong chemistry can cause real mechanical damage — OEM is always the correct choice. For wear items and fluids, the price premium over quality aftermarket is typically small; the consequences of using an incompatible product are not.
BMW requires its own silicate-free, phosphate-free "blue" coolant — never use a generic green or orange coolant in a BMW. BMW's aluminum cooling system components react adversely with the silicate inhibitor packages in most generic coolants, causing corrosion of the water pump impeller and radiator core over time. SV Motori stocks the BMW blue coolant in both 1-liter concentrate and 1-gallon pre-mixed formats. Always mix concentrate with distilled water — never tap water.
