Front vs. Trunk — Why They're Different Parts

The pin spacing, adhesive pad geometry, and emblem orientation differ between the F87 hood (bonnet) and trunk lid mounting positions. BMW supplies these as two separate part numbers — using the hood unit on the trunk, or vice versa, will result in incorrect pin alignment. The trunk unit (51148087196) is specifically engineered for the boot lid location, where the mounting holes and pin grommets match this emblem's backing precisely. If the original pin hole grommets in the trunk lid are not reusable, replacement grommets will be needed (sold separately at BMW dealers — not included in this product).
